My Short Story
I.
I dropped down from the vent and began to examine my surroundings. The room was dark besides the lamp that stood on the desk across the room from where I stood. I began to slowly but steadily inch myself forward to the computer constantly checking to see if I was alone or not. As I approached the computer I took a seat down and began to attempt to crack it. After looking throughout the computer for a while i pressed my finger against my ear to and began to speak into the microphone that was there.
“Kevin! You told me that you deactivated the password on the computer!”
“What? It's asking you for a password?”
“Yes! Do something quick before anyone comes here!”
“Alright alright give me a sec, let me see....”
“Oh crud hold on!!...”
I jumped down underneath the desk just as someone opened the door and began to walk in. As this man walked throughout the room, putting his things away, I tried to catch a glimpse of him hoping I could make out his face. I had never seen this man before, apparently just someone that worked here. He walked up to the chair of the desk and took a seat down and took a look at the computer.
“Hey! Who's been messing with the pass-...”
I didn't even give him time to complete his sentence. Immediately I grabbed upon his leg and pulled him down under the seat. The man yelled as he began flopping around trying to get out of my hands, I began to attempt to tie his arms and legs together when I noticed he was trying to reach for a knife attached to his belt. I pushed him away from me and he began to run outside of the room- to blow my cover. I began to jump up on my feet-forgetting that I was still underneath the desk. I banged my head hard against the top of the desk and fell upon the floor. After several minutes of the intense pain coursing its way through my body, I found myself being lifted up by two rather large men. I tried to fight, swinging my legs in a hopeless attempt to break free. As they dragged me across the factory, I got a chance to look around the place. Boxes upon boxes labeled TNT were being hauled into huge piles from large conveyor belts. The men looked as if they were being worked to death and gave strange looks to me as I passed them. As my eyes jolted from side to side I found my destination- the exit. I clicked both of my heels together and a knifed popped out from the edge of one of them. I then jabbed the end of the knife to the side of one of the guys.
He screamed as the blood trickled out as he collapsed to his knees giving me the freedom to escape. I dashed toward the door and I began getting chased by the guards. As I was running, the alarm began to sound, red lights began to flash and the door- my only exit- began to close. I began two run faster towards the door. Hoping that I would be able to slide underneath it, I took a leap towards it. I didn't make it; the door closed right when I was about to go underneath. I turned around to see the guards coming at me. Then, out of no where, the door began to rise back up. The guards turned around to see who flipped the switch back only to see no one there and once they turned back, I was already outside where I found Kevin in his car, where we made our escape out of the factory.
“Dude that was awesome!”
“Awesome!?! Awesome!?!?” Kevin said as he drove away from the factory, “You almost got yourself killed!”
“But I didn't, thanks to you. The whole shoe knife thing worked as good as you said it would! and if you didn't open that door in the last second I could have been a goner!
Kevin turned to me puzzled. “But Lance... I didn't do anything to do with the door....”
“Wait what? Then-th-then who opened the door for me?”
“I don't know... and speaking of questions, we still don't know what Alivin is up to. We're going to need to find out his password.
“I can do that.”
“Noooo!..Lance no! You already almost died and now they know that your trying to figure them out so they're going to be on the lookout for you.”
“Well that only makes it more fun. C'mon don't be a chicken.”
“But what if you die!?”
“I won't die.”
“What if you get captured?”
“I won't get captured.”
“But what if u-”
“Kevin!” I interrupted, “I'll be fine!”
He kept silent
“If it will make you feel better,” I said. “we'll bring someone else from the base with us this time.”
“Fine...” Kevin finally said. “We'll do that. Lets go to the base now.”
“Now that's what I'm talking about!” I said as I gave him a friendly punch on his shoulder and then I brought my head backwards on my seat and began to rest.
II.
“Wake up man, we're here.”
I opened my eyes and slowly lifted my head to look around. We were back at the base. We stopped at the front of the gate where we were greeted by the security guards.
“Welcome back Lance and Kevin,” The rather large guard said.
“Heyy Greg,” Kevin said, “How are you doing?”
“I'm doing great, thank you for asking.”
“And the kids?”
Greg Smiled “They're doing great. Ashley is almost 3 years old, I can't wait till her birthday”
“Thats Fantastic,” Kevin said
“I know, well I don't wanna keep you two waiting, I'm gonna open the gate for you guys”
Greg pulled the lever in the side of his booth and the gates opened.
“Thanks Greg!”
Kevin began to drive down the gate with Greg waving behind us.
Once we entered the building, we walked up and started heading towards our boss's office, passing familiar faces along the way. We knocked on the door, about a minute later it was opened and behind it, stood a tall but skinny man. His Hair was as white as snow, and he was wearing a fancy tuxedo.
“Lance! Kevin!” He said with a smile. “It's great to see you guys again, come in come in,”
He turned around and began to walk in a fast pace to his big desk in the end of his long office. We began to follow him while looking around at his office, There was a lot more things in here since last time we came. Newspapers were framed and hung around the walls, many of them headlined, Namca or had something to do with Namca.
“Do you like my office?” The man said, “I had it redecorated!”
“It looks great Gerard! Did you decorate it yourself?
“As a matter of fact,” Gerard said proudly, “I did! All I had to do: was-”
“If I can interrupt...” I said, “What's Namco?
Gerard looked at me with a rather goofy looking expression on his face
“You don't know what Namca is? Why it's the building that you were just in! And speaking of which did you find out what Alivin is up to?”
Feeling dumb I said. “No we haven't, We need to go back there.”
“And...” Kevin added “We'd also like to bring another agent to come with us for backup.
“Excellent” Gerard said, “You can bring Earl with you guys, he needs the experience”
“Wait, what? No!” I said “He's one of the worst spies here! He's not ready for a job like this!”
“Well, If you are as experienced as you claim you are, you would be able to teach Earl to be a better agent”
“But I-”
“We'll take him!” Kevin cut in
“Excellent! I'll have him meet you guys! Now go down there and tell him about his biggest mission yet”
“Yesir” We both said and we began to head out the office. As soon as we closed the door I gave Kevin a whack in the head
“Why the heck did you say we'll take him?
“You can't argue with the boss!” Kevin explained
“Why not? I do it all the time!”
“It's not polite...”
“....I'm going back in there” I began to walk to the door When I heard the high pitch screech from the guy I least wanted to hear. “Heyyy guys!” Yelled Earl as he ran down the hall way to us. By the time he got to us he was already panting and sweating all over.
“Hey you two! I heard the awesome news we're going to be in a mission together!”
“Ya I know!” Kevin said “You up for it?”
“Oh am I ever!”
“And what about you Lance?”
“Eh” I said “Sure”
”Lance” Earl said as he took a step closer to me, “It has always been my dream to go on a mission with you, Lance Tankman! One of the best secret agents of all time!! And now it's reality! I'm soo excited!
“Alright” I said “Ok we'll see you tomorrow. Bye”
“Ok Lance, bye! Bye Kevin see ya both tomorrow!” Earl said as he pranced away.
“Bye!” Kevin said waving
I slapped him in the side of his head “This is all your fault,” I said as I began to walk away.
III.
“So this is how a secret agent car looks like!” Earl exclaimed as he looked throughout the van.
“Ohh please don't touch anything” Kevin said as he was trying to pay attention to both him and the road.
“Aww, Man I bet if when you press this button, like, missiles shoot out of the car! Am I right?”
“Noo, thats only in the cartoons Earl now please can you-”
“Can this car turn invisible!?” Earl Interrupted “Cause if it does that would be friggen sweet!”
“Lance!” Kevin yelled to me while I sat in my seat with my arms folded. “Can you please control him?”
I sighed, “Earl!” I yelled “Shut the heck up and sit down.” Terrified, Earl stopped talking, sat down, and folded his hand together.
It was at night when we arrived at the Namca building. We silently (well except Earl) walked up to the fence from behind the building
“Ok we need to get the password to the computer so we know whats Alivin is up to.” I said
“Wait who's Alivin?” Earl Asked
“Well” Kevin said “He's the owner of Namco, And has been a rival to Gerard for a long time. No one really knows why they've been fighting for so long, But rumor says that Alivin is planning on a attack on us so thats what we have to find out,”
“Yes” I agreed, “And we need to find the password of the computer to see what he's up to, thats our job, And Kevin is going to stay in the van and keep an eye on us, and any other computer stuff that we might need help on. In fact, Kevin, start heading to the van we're gonna start heading in.”
“Alright” Kevin replied. “Good luck you two” Kevin turned back and began to run to the van.
“Ok Earl, we might get a clue of what the password is at Alivin's office, so we're going to the top of the building and sneak into his room and hopefully we'll find something, ok?”
“Ok” Earl said, “But how are we going to get to the top of the building without going in it?
“With these” I took a grappling hook out of my backpack and began swinging it around. I threw it up and it caught into the roof
“I'll climb up first and you come up behind me, ok?”
“Ok I'll try” Earl said so he looked all the way at the top of the building.
I began to climb up and I was about ten feet up when i looked down to see that Earl didn't even touch the rope yet.
“Umm, are you going to climb up?” I asked
“Uhh about that...” He studdered. “I'm kinda... umm afraid of heights...”
“You gotta be kiddin me, c'mon man don't be a chicken”
“I'm not a chicken!, I'm just scared to climb that!”
I sighed “Fine how about you climb first and I'll be underneath you so if you fall I'll catch you.
“Fine” Earl said as he began to slowly walk up to the rope. He slowly began to climb it but after several pushes and yelling by me, he began to climb at a decent pace with me underneath. From time to time though he would begin to slip and his butt would hit me right in the face, but after the second time he did that to me I assured him that if he was to do that again I would just throw him off. Once we made it to the roof, and after I gave Earl several minutes to rest, we began to look around on the roof top until we found the sunroof and through the glass we saw Alivin's office. It was a very big office, and very fancy looking.
Through my ear piece I said to Kevin, “Ok Kevin we found his office”
“Awesome” Kevin said. “Do you see Alivin?”
“ No the rooms Empty, wait, no! Alivin just stepped into the room!”
Through the doors of the office, A short but fat man walked into the room, with perfectly combed hair, and a glass over one eye. Rather fancy looking, and walked with his pointy shaped noise tilted up.
“Wow he's ugly!” Earl yelled
“Shh!” I whispered at him “He'll see us”
Alivin walked up to his desk grabbed several papers and headed back outside the door. After several minutes of absolute silence, Lance began to open the glass window, After several minutes of playing with it. He lifted up the piece of glass and gently put it aside.
“Let's go” I said as I jumped down to the office. I landed quietly and smoothly followed by the loud thumb of Earl falling down, that rattled all of the glass figurines that were in his office. We both ran to behind the desk and began to open drawers and look throughout them.
“Ok something here has to tell us what his password is.” I said as opening drawers.
“Oh oh here!” Earl said while waving a small paper around, “This has a bunch of random numbers on it, this might be the password”
“Good Job Earl, now quick lets go to the computer room, I know how to get there though the vents.” I walked up to the side of the office and opened one of the vents and we both crawled into the darkness of it.
IV.
“Ok the coast is clear” I said as I hopped down from the vent with Earl following. As I looked around the room I remembered what happened last time. We both walked up to the computer.
“Ok man” I said “read me the password and I'll type it in.” Once I typed in the password and clicked enter, we both gave a sigh of relief as it said that the password was correct.
“Kevin! I'm in” I said while working at the computer.
“Sweet! What does it say?”
“Give me a sec let me see”
After looking through it for a while the smile left my face.
“Oh my Gosh... “
“What what does it say?” Keven asked”
“They know we're here... Its a letter to us! They know we're here and they're going to blow up our base!”
“Oh my gosh Earl said” How do they know!?”
“Kevin!” I yelled, “Go back to base and warn everyone about this”
“Alright” Kevin said, “I'm gonna drive there now!”
“Ok and, wait... Where's Earl?” I turn around to see that I'm the only one in the room. Then the two guards from before enter the room, and begin to charge after me, One of them pulls out a metal pole and whacks me in the side of my head, and knocks me out cold.
When I woke up again I found myself tied up on a chair in a empty room, Only after realizing where I was did I notice that the back of my head was bleeding, because I saw the drops of blood under me. Not much longer from there was the door opened by two large body guards standing side by side. As they approached me they split up to reveal the tiny Alivin, who was standing behind them. We faced each other face to face, even though I was sitting and he was not. He stared at me his squinty eyes for a while as he paced back in forth in front of me before he said anything at all.
“Lance Tankman” He said, his voice was scrawny, and annoying, As in, it was kinda torture just listening to him.
“At last we meet, you've met my two guards before, have you not? “
I kept silent
“How do you like your stay at Namca?”
I didn't take my eyes off the floor
He slapped me across my face with a diamond ring on his finger making my lip begin to bleed.
“You know Lance it's awfully rude not to speak when spoken to.”
“Why are you going to blow up our base?”
“Oh no I'm not,” He said with a chuckle, “ Your little friend Kevin is”
“What?”
“As you were in here frolicking around in my business, without my permission, I had one of my guards to place a timer bomb in you're friends van, knowing that you would send him to your base once you read my computer.” Alivin grinned, “So you pretty much ordered your best friend and all of you other friends to their destruction.”
“Oh my God” I said., “Why are you doing this?”
“I've hated Gerard for the longest time now, ever since we were young we'd always be in conflict, And mother liked him best just because he was youngest!”
“Wait...” I said, “You guys are brothers!?!”
“Yes... and ever since he was born, Mother stopped caring for me. She'd only care for him, Thats why i ran away from home when I was 14. And from then I swore to get revenge, But apparently, you took care of that for me, because in one hour, the bomb will go off. And all of your friends would die!
I couldn't believe what was happening, I looked down on the floor and the twisted man laughed at me. Then I heard thumping from above, I turned my head up to see a hand punch down the vent and i saw a hand waving down at me.
“Dude!!” Earl yelled “I came to save you! I have knife to cut you free! Now quick come here and get it before the guards come!.”
I sighed, “They're here in the room right now”
“Oh crud, for real? I'll be back later” Earl dropped the knife and began to thump away.
“After him!” Yelled Alivin, as all three of them left the room to catch him.
Once they all left I began to hop my way to the knife he dropped to free myself from the chair. As I was cutting the rope I could here the scream of Earl as he ran, around the place. Once I was finally free I began to head out of the door to find Earl. As I stepped out of the room, Earl ran past me, so I began to run with him. I hear the screams of the guards running behind us. Once we ran outside, we scanned the parking lot and we found a motorcycle, we hopped on it, began the engine and began to drive off, After a few minutes of being on the road did we realize that the 2 guards were still following us, on their own motorcycles. I drove down through the traffic, evading through the cars, trying to get to the bomb before it goes off.
“Lance!” Earl yells from behind me. “They got guns!
I looked at my side view mirror to see the men draw out their firearms and prepare to load it. I hit the gas, and continue to head to the base. I hear the first shot go off, and I swing my motorcycle from side to side to make it difficult to be a target. That shot is followed by many more, and many more close calls. At last, one of the shots hits it's destination. The steel bullet makes a hole in our tank, and the gas begins to drain out.
“We're running out of gas!” Earl said a I saw that the red line began to quickly make it's way to the “E”
“We're going to get another bike.” I said. I kept on dodging the bullets until i saw that they began to reload their guns. Once I saw this, I began to slow down until I was parrellel to one of the guys motorcycle. Once I got where I wanted I kicked the guy out of his bike, as Earl and I came in. Leaving the old one behind, As soon as the other guy saw was had just happened, I again hit the gas and left him behind.
V.
Once we got to the base, everyone was preparing on leaving the bass, people were running out of the building with boxes of their belongings. We jumped out of my bike and began to look for Kevin,
“Kevin!” I yelled once I caught sight of him.
“Lance! Earl!!” He yelled as he came to us. “You have no idea how happy I am to see you guys! I got the news to everyone so now we're all leaving before they bomb us!
“No!” I yelled, “Tell everyone to go back inside the building the bomb is on your van!
“What?!”
“I'll explain later, there's someone following me, just give me the keys and get everyone back inside! Earl! You help him.”
“Alright Lance” He said as they both left yelling at everyone to get back in.
I turned around to see that the guard pulled in on his motorcycle, Once I saw him I began to run towards the van. I got inside the van and began to drive it outside of the base. I knew exactly where I was going to drive this. I began the road back to where i came from, with The man behind me. I heard no more gun shots behind me so I guessed that he ran out of ammo. I then realized that I had no idea how long the bomb has been going off. All the things that happened since i was told about the bomb and this very second, apparently wasn't an hour yet, even thought it felt like more then one. The bomb could go off any second now, and I was in it. After several minutes the door of the other side of me opened and the man came in leaving his motorcycle behind. I lifted my foot and I began to try to kick him out, but he grabbed my leg and began to pull me in, the car began swaying around the place, with both of my hand together i repeatably began to bang my hands upon his head trying to get him to let go, I tried my best to keep the car on the road. After several minutes of clawing each other, I glimpsed the sight of Namca. He pulled a knife out and stabbed me in the left arm. The Pain was unbearable, I reached down and took out my shoe and let the knife come out from it. I then stabbed the sleeve of his arm to the wheel of the car seat, and I rolled out of the car, into the ground as the van ran into the fence surrounding the company and then crashed inside the building. I ran as fast as I could away from the place, and once I was far enough I stared at the building until the entire area exploded from the bomb, I smiled with satisfaction as I turned around and begin to walk home with the smoke and fire debris behind me.
